Gutters: Exterior Home Protection
Gutters provide an exterior drainage system for your home. Now that we are in the fall season and leaves are falling, you need to make sure your gutters are clean and able to drain.
A clogged gutter can cause several problems for your home:
Rotting Wood Fascia Boards
If water builds up in your gutters, the fascia board wood will start to decompose causing serious problems. Replacing your fascia boards is a much bigger project than keeping your gutters clean.
Foundation Cracks
Clogged gutters can cause water to pool around your home’s foundation. This can lead to potential penetration areas. Repairing cracks in your foundation can be a monumental task, and one not normally recommended for a do-it-yourself project.
Roof Leaks
If your gutters are full of leaves and debris, ice can easily form and damage your shingles and wood. Snow can sit and penetrate your once sturdy roof. A leaky roof is the last thing you want in the middle of the winter when the snow and ice make any repairs difficult.
Landscaping Damage
All your hard work making your landscape luscious and attractive can be for naught if your gutters are clogged. The force that water exits the gutters is surprisingly strong and can dig holes in your gardens and flowerbeds and cause excessive watering to your once beautiful landscape and unattractive dips in your yard.
Clean Your Gutters Now
These are just a few of the problems that can result in your gutters being clogged. Make sure, before the bad weather arrives, that your gutters are clean and flowing properly. You will save yourself money and aggravation.
